Overheard on William St, Melbourne
'I remember when this went up. I must 'ave been about 14. I was gobsmacked!'
This is a place where I share my ideas and my writing and put into practice my hopes for greater connection, critical thinking and clear expression amongst people who care about our world, our communities, and each other. Social and political issues, writing, language, fathers and fathering - these are some of the things you'll find here.

Is that polished marble?
Nah, rusty iron, I think. Or some alloy of iron. It's just very oxidised.
I remember when it went up to, and I was only about 5. The AMP building was the tallest in Melbourne, but was pretty quickly overtaken by the BHP headquarters opposite. Which, appropriately, was also all oxidised iron. I don't get down that end of town much any more, but I reckon St James Plaza around the AMP building stands up well as a piece of late 1960s/early 1970s urban architecture, even though the AMP building itself is now dwarfed
