It was my birthday on Thursday - guess what I'd got? I enjoy helping my son make is robots and other creatures, and often said I wanted one myself! This year, my birthday fell on a full moon - is there a rule that it had to be a total stress day? More later.

I am a writer and a reader, and believe in the power of words and images to make a difference. I make a basic living helping other people's words look good, and need to express my ideas in my own words and images to keep sane. I am also a father: my two young sons are currently the joy and challenge of my life, and I'm loving it.

Hi Penni and gen, thanks for our birthday wishes. No it's not remote control, but from what I've learned so far (assembly will be later today…) there is a motorised gadget that acts as both a powered screw-driver and a motor to activate various moving parts.
Mmmm, lego is good. esp lego that's been forgotten for ages in the shed. Or in our case, in the boys' nanna's spare room…

Happy birthday Mark, I'm often tempted to write on selection criteria and job applications that my ambition in life is to build giant robots. What greater joy is there?
